SRD R370 Grant |

The increases are about 3.4% roughly in line with South Africa’s current inflation rate of 3.2%. Civil society groups had hoped for a higher increase. The SRD grant received no increase and stays at R370 per month until March 2027.
Your new amounts will apply from your first payment in April 2026. You do not need to do anything. The increase happens automatically.
- ⚠️ SRD recipients: The R370 amount did not change. President Ramaphosa announced in the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) that the SRD grant will eventually be redesigned into a ‘livelihoods grant’. Changes, if any, will be announced at the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement later in 2026.
One Grant Per Person The New Rule Enforced From March 2026
Starting in March 2026, SASSA began enforcing the single-grant rule nationwide. This means each person can only receive one main social grant at a time.
For many years, some beneficiaries were able to receive more than one qualifying grant. This is now being stopped. SASSA is cross-checking its records against other government databases. Beneficiaries who are found to be receiving multiple main grants will have their records reviewed.
What does this mean for you?
If you receive an SMS review notification from SASSA, do not ignore it. You must visit your nearest SASSA office to complete the grant review. If you ignore it, your grant could be suspended.
- ⚠️ Official SASSA Warning: Spokesperson Senzeni Ngubeni stated that the grant review, as required by the Social Assistance Act, ensures SASSA is still paying the right grant to the right eligible beneficiary. Respond to all official review notifications immediately.
SRD R370 Grant Payment Dates
The SRD grant works differently from permanent grants. It does not follow the fixed first-week schedule. SASSA checks your eligibility every month before releasing payment.
Most SRD payments happen between the 20th and the end of each month. For March 2026, SASSA confirmed the SRD payment window as 24–31 March 2026. Your exact date depends on when SASSA finishes reviewing your application for that specific month.
To find your SRD payment date, you must check your status. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za. Enter your ID number and registered phone number. Your personal payment date will appear once it has been confirmed.
- 📢 Big News: The SRD R370 grant is extended to 31 March 2027. The February 2026 Budget allocated R36.4 billion to keep it running. The amount stays at R370 per month. No changes are needed on your side payments continue automatically.

Weekend and Public Holiday Payment Rules
When a payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, SASSA moves the payment forward to the closest working day before. This usually means the Friday before.
SASSA announces date changes on their official social media pages and at sassa.gov.za. Always update your details before the 19th of each month to avoid any changes affecting your next payment.
Linked Grant Payments
If you receive more than one grant linked to the same account for example, an Older Persons Grant and a Grant in Aid both payments follow the schedule of your primary (main) grant.
So if your Older Persons Grant pays on the 3rd, your linked Grant-in-Aid also pays on the 3rd. You don’t have to take any additional steps.

SASSA Payment Not Received What to Do
If your payment date has passed and your money has not arrived, follow these steps. Stay calm. Most delays are resolved within 2–3 working days.
The most common reasons for late payments:
How to Update Your SASSA Banking Details
If your bank account changes, update your details with SASSA immediately. Payments sent to a closed account will bounce and delay your money.
For SRD grant: Go to srd.sassa.gov.za. Click ‘Update Banking Details’. Enter your ID and phone number. Follow the steps to enter your new bank information.
For permanent grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, etc.): Visit your nearest SASSA office in person. Bring your South African ID, your new bank card, and a recent bank statement.
Do all updates before the 19th of the month. Changes submitted after the 19th will only apply to the following month’s payment.
- ⚠️ Warning: Never give your banking details to anyone who calls, messages, or visits claiming to be from SASSA. SASSA will never ask for your PIN. This is how scammers steal from beneficiaries.
Same Day SASSA Application Approval
Great news for new applicants. Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe announced that SASSA now offers same-day approvals for the Child Support Grant.
This means that if you bring all the correct documents to a SASSA office, your application can be approved and processed on the same day. You do not have to wait weeks or months for a decision.
To qualify for same-day approval, you need to bring:
Same-day approval is currently rolling out across SASSA offices. Call your local office first (0800 60 10 11) to confirm they are offering this service.
How to Apply for a SASSA Grant
For the SRD R370 Grant: Applications are online only. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za. Click ‘Apply’. You will need your South African ID, a working mobile number, and your bank details. Applications are free.
For all other grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, etc.): You must apply in person at your nearest SASSA office. There are currently no online application forms for permanent grants.
If you are too sick or elderly to visit in person, a family member or trusted person can apply for you. They will need a letter from your doctor explaining why you cannot attend, plus all of your documents certified by a commissioner of oaths.
- 💡 Good News: SASSA now offers same-day approval for the Child Support Grant. Bring all your documents and you can leave with your application approved on the same visit.
How to Appeal a Declined SASSA Grant
For the SRD R370 Grant
Rule covers Permanent Grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, etc.).
For non-SRD grants, you appeal through the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). ITSAA is an independent body. Its decision overrules SASSA’s decision.
How to Prevent Payment Problems
Safe Grant Collection Tips
Postbank Black Card What Every Beneficiary Must Know
In 2026, SASSA began moving all beneficiaries from the old SASSA Gold Card to a new Postbank Black Card. Your grant payments will eventually move to the new card.
If you have questions about your card, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest SASSA or Postbank office.
★ SASSA Scam Warning — Protect Your Grant in and 2026
Scammers pretend to be SASSA. They send fake SMS messages, WhatsApp messages, and emails. They create fake websites. They knock on doors. They want your ID number, your PIN, and your banking details.
5 Scams to Know Right Now
Fake SMS: You get a message saying your grant was increased or is ready. It asks you to click a link. Do not click. It is not from SASSA.
Fake website: A site looks exactly like SASSA’s but has a slightly different web address. It steals your login information.
Fake WhatsApp agent: Someone messages you pretending to be a SASSA worker. They ask for your ID and bank details.
Fake Facebook competition: A post says you can win an extra payment if you fill in a form. The form steals your personal data.
Door to door impostor: Someone visits your home claiming to be from SASSA. SASSA does not visit your home without an appointment.

SASSA 2026 to 2027 Payment Schedule
The 2026 to 2027 payment schedule covering April 2026 to March 2027 will be officially released by SASSA in March 2026, before the new financial year begins on 1 April 2026.
Based on the pattern of previous years, you can reasonably expect April 2026 payments to fall in the first week of the month, following the same order: Older Persons first, then Disability, then Children’s grants.
When the confirmed 2026–2027 dates are released, this article will be updated. Bookmark this page and return in late March 2026.
- 📢 New Grant Amounts from April 2026: All permanent grants increase in April 2026. See the full increases table earlier in this article. The SRD grant stays at R370.
FAQs
Final Thoughts
Years of working on South African social welfare content has taught me one thing above everything else information gaps hurt real people. When a grandmother shows up at an ATM on the wrong date because a website published old numbers, she does not just miss a payment. She misses medication. She worries for two days.
She calls her children who have no answers. That is the human cost of bad content and it is why every date and every amount in this article has been checked twice against the official Budget Review released on 25 February 2026, against SASSA’s own statements, and against reporting from GroundUp, BusinessTech, and Daily Maverick.
The SASSA payment system is not perfect. Delays happen. Review processes are stressful. The SRD grant is not enough to live on. The single-grant policy will confuse some people. The biometric checks will frustrate elderly beneficiaries in rural areas. These are real problems and I will not pretend otherwise.
What I can tell you is this: the grant system is improving, the amounts are going up in April 2026, and 26.5 million people will still receive support this financial year. Keep your details updated. Check your status after the 15th. Cash out promptly. And if you find something wrong on your account or on this page report it. One correct piece of information, shared with someone who needs it, can change a month for them.
