The increases are about 3.4% roughly in line with South Africa’s current inflation rate of 3.2%. Civil society groups had hoped for a higher increase. The SRD grant received no increase and stays at R370 per month until March 2027.

Your new amounts will apply from your first payment in April 2026. You do not need to do anything. The increase happens automatically.

One Grant Per Person The New Rule Enforced From March 2026

Starting in March 2026, SASSA began enforcing the single-grant rule nationwide. This means each person can only receive one main social grant at a time.

For many years, some beneficiaries were able to receive more than one qualifying grant. This is now being stopped. SASSA is cross-checking its records against other government databases. Beneficiaries who are found to be receiving multiple main grants will have their records reviewed.

What does this mean for you?

  • If you only receive one grant nothing changes. Your payments continue as normal.
  • If you receive two grants linked to the same person your situation will be reviewed.
  • If your grant is flagged for review, SASSA will send you an SMS notification.
  • Child Support Grant payments linked to a caregiver’s Older Persons Grant are not affected by this rule those linked payments continue.

If you receive an SMS review notification from SASSA, do not ignore it. You must visit your nearest SASSA office to complete the grant review. If you ignore it, your grant could be suspended.

SRD R370 Grant Payment Dates

The SRD grant works differently from permanent grants. It does not follow the fixed first-week schedule. SASSA checks your eligibility every month before releasing payment.

Most SRD payments happen between the 20th and the end of each month. For March 2026, SASSA confirmed the SRD payment window as 24–31 March 2026. Your exact date depends on when SASSA finishes reviewing your application for that specific month.

To find your SRD payment date, you must check your status. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za. Enter your ID number and registered phone number. Your personal payment date will appear once it has been confirmed.

Weekend and Public Holiday Payment Rules

When a payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, SASSA moves the payment forward to the closest working day before. This usually means the Friday before.

  • Payment date falls on a Saturday → you get paid on the Friday before.
  • Payment date falls on a Sunday → you get paid on the Friday before.
  • Payment date falls on a public holiday → you get paid on the working day before.
  • Your money stays in your account until you collect it. There is no expiry date. No rush.

SASSA announces date changes on their official social media pages and at sassa.gov.za. Always update your details before the 19th of each month to avoid any changes affecting your next payment.

Linked Grant Payments

If you receive more than one grant linked to the same account for example, an Older Persons Grant and a Grant in Aid both payments follow the schedule of your primary (main) grant.

So if your Older Persons Grant pays on the 3rd, your linked Grant-in-Aid also pays on the 3rd. You don’t have to take any additional steps.

SASSA Payment Not Received What to Do

If your payment date has passed and your money has not arrived, follow these steps. Stay calm. Most delays are resolved within 2–3 working days.

  • Check your status online at srd.sassa.gov.za or services.sassa.gov.za first.
  • Verify your banking details are correct and your account is active.
  • Wait 2 to 3 extra working days. Banking system delays happen, especially after public holidays.
  • Call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 and report the missing payment. Have your ID number ready.
  • Visit your nearest SASSA office if the phone line cannot resolve your problem.

The most common reasons for late payments:

  • Banking details are wrong or your account was closed
  • Your account was flagged for a routine eligibility review
  • A public holiday shifted the processing window
  • You did not update your details before the 19th of the month

How to Update Your SASSA Banking Details

If your bank account changes, update your details with SASSA immediately. Payments sent to a closed account will bounce and delay your money.

For SRD grant:  Go to srd.sassa.gov.za. Click ‘Update Banking Details’. Enter your ID and phone number. Follow the steps to enter your new bank information.

For permanent grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, etc.):  Visit your nearest SASSA office in person. Bring your South African ID, your new bank card, and a recent bank statement.

Do all updates before the 19th of the month. Changes submitted after the 19th will only apply to the following month’s payment.

Same Day SASSA Application Approval

Great news for new applicants. Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe announced that SASSA now offers same-day approvals for the Child Support Grant.

This means that if you bring all the correct documents to a SASSA office, your application can be approved and processed on the same day. You do not have to wait weeks or months for a decision.

To qualify for same-day approval, you need to bring:

  • Your South African ID (green ID book or smart ID card)
  • The child’s birth certificate
  • Proof of your household income (payslip, bank statement, or affidavit)
  • Your bank details (bank card or recent bank statement)
  • Address verification document dated within 3 months

Same-day approval is currently rolling out across SASSA offices. Call your local office first (0800 60 10 11) to confirm they are offering this service.

How to Apply for a SASSA Grant

For the SRD R370 Grant:  Applications are online only. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za. Click ‘Apply’. You will need your South African ID, a working mobile number, and your bank details. Applications are free.

For all other grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, etc.):  You must apply in person at your nearest SASSA office. There are currently no online application forms for permanent grants.

If you are too sick or elderly to visit in person, a family member or trusted person can apply for you. They will need a letter from your doctor explaining why you cannot attend, plus all of your documents certified by a commissioner of oaths.

How to Appeal a Declined SASSA Grant

For the SRD R370 Grant

  • Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals.
  • Click ‘Lodge an Appeal’.
  • Enter your South African ID number and the phone number used when you applied.
  • Select the month you are appealing.
  • Write a short explanation of why you think the decision was wrong.
  • You have 90 days from the date of decline to file an appeal.

Rule covers  Permanent Grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, etc.).

For non-SRD grants, you appeal through the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). ITSAA is an independent body. Its decision overrules SASSA’s decision.

  • Write a letter: your full name, ID number, phone number, and why you think the decision was wrong.
  • Attach any supporting documents (medical reports, proof of income, etc.).
  • Send to: grantappeals@dsd.gov.za or call 012 312 7727.
  • You can also hand your appeal in at your local SASSA office.
  • File your appeal within 90 days of receiving the decline notice.

How to Prevent Payment Problems

  • Keep your contact number and address updated with SASSA at all times.
  • Keep your banking details updated. Change your details before the 19th if you switch banks.
  • Tell SASSA if your circumstances change for example, if you start earning income.
  • Do not ignore any SMS review notification from SASSA. Respond immediately by visiting an office.
  • Check your status after the 15th of each month to confirm approval for that month.

Safe Grant Collection Tips

  • Never share your PIN with anyone not family, not friends, not ‘helpers’.
  • Always shield your PIN when typing at an ATM or shop till.
  • Try to collect mid month. ATM queues are shorter and safer away from payment day.
  • If you feel unsafe at a pay point, leave and return later.
  • Check your balance before leaving the ATM to confirm the right amount was paid.

Postbank Black Card What Every Beneficiary Must Know

In 2026, SASSA began moving all beneficiaries from the old SASSA Gold Card to a new Postbank Black Card. Your grant payments will eventually move to the new card.

  • The old Gold Card still works for now. Your payments are not affected at this stage.
  • To get your new Postbank Black Card, visit any Postbank branch with your South African ID.
  • Your grant will automatically move to the new card once it is linked.
  • You can still collect your grant at Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, and Usave stores.

If you have questions about your card, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest SASSA or Postbank office.

★ SASSA Scam Warning — Protect Your Grant in and 2026

Scammers pretend to be SASSA. They send fake SMS messages, WhatsApp messages, and emails. They create fake websites. They knock on doors. They want your ID number, your PIN, and your banking details.

5 Scams to Know Right Now

Fake SMS: You get a message saying your grant was increased or is ready. It asks you to click a link. Do not click. It is not from SASSA.

Fake website: A site looks exactly like SASSA’s but has a slightly different web address. It steals your login information.

Fake WhatsApp agent: Someone messages you pretending to be a SASSA worker. They ask for your ID and bank details.

Fake Facebook competition: A post says you can win an extra payment if you fill in a form. The form steals your personal data.

Door to door impostor: Someone visits your home claiming to be from SASSA. SASSA does not visit your home without an appointment.

How to Stay Safe

  • The only official SASSA website is sassa.gov.za. Always check the exact URL.
  • The only official SRD portal is srd.sassa.gov.za. Do not use any other site.
  • SASSA will never ask for your PIN, password, or banking details by phone or message.
  • SASSA will never charge you money to receive a grant.
  • Report scams: Call 0800 60 10 11 or the fraud hotline at 0800 601 011.

SASSA 2026 to 2027 Payment Schedule

The 2026 to 2027 payment schedule covering April 2026 to March 2027 will be officially released by SASSA in March 2026, before the new financial year begins on 1 April 2026.

Based on the pattern of previous years, you can reasonably expect April 2026 payments to fall in the first week of the month, following the same order: Older Persons first, then Disability, then Children’s grants.

When the confirmed 2026–2027 dates are released, this article will be updated. Bookmark this page and return in late March 2026.

FAQs

Permanent grants pay in the first week of each month. Older Persons go first, then Disability the next day, then Children’s grants the day after. For March 2026: 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The SRD R370 grant pays in the last wee typically between the 20th and 31st.

Yes. The February 2026 Budget confirmed the SRD grant is extended to 31 March 2027. R36.4 billion has been allocated. The amount stays at R370/month. No action needed payments continue automatically if you remain eligible.

The most common reasons: wrong banking details, identity verification needed, account flagged for a routine review, or a bank processing delay after a public holiday. Check your status first at srd.sassa.gov.za or services.sassa.gov.za. If unresolved after 3 working days, call 0800 60 10 11.

From March 2026, SASSA is enforcing a rule that each person can only receive one main social grant. If you receive a review SMS, you must visit a SASSA office. Linked child grants attached to a caregiver’s grant are not affected.

Save number 082 046 8553 in mobile phone. Open WhatsApp and send the message ‘Hi’. Follow the menu steps. This works on certain networks without using mobile data.

Yes. The old SASSA gold card still works for now. However, SASSA is moving all beneficiaries to the new Postbank Black Card. Visit a Postbank branch with your ID to get your new card.

Call the SASSA fraud hotline on 0800 601 011. You can also call 0800 60 10 11 for general fraud concerns. SASSA will never ask for your PIN or charge you money.

Final Thoughts

Years of working on South African social welfare content has taught me one thing above everything else information gaps hurt real people. When a grandmother shows up at an ATM on the wrong date because a website published old numbers, she does not just miss a payment. She misses medication. She worries for two days.

She calls her children who have no answers. That is the human cost of bad content and it is why every date and every amount in this article has been checked twice against the official Budget Review released on 25 February 2026, against SASSA’s own statements, and against reporting from GroundUp, BusinessTech, and Daily Maverick.

The SASSA payment system is not perfect. Delays happen. Review processes are stressful. The SRD grant is not enough to live on. The single-grant policy will confuse some people. The biometric checks will frustrate elderly beneficiaries in rural areas. These are real problems and I will not pretend otherwise.

What I can tell you is this: the grant system is improving, the amounts are going up in April 2026, and 26.5 million people will still receive support this financial year. Keep your details updated. Check your status after the 15th. Cash out promptly. And if you find something wrong on your account or on this page report it. One correct piece of information, shared with someone who needs it, can change a month for them.
